The spring Girls on the Run 5K celebration is Saturday, May 6. More information on time, location, etc. is coming soon.

The course for a 5K is 3.1 miles.

As a reminder, this is a fun, celebratory event for our participants and not a competitive race. While our fastest 5K participants will complete the course in 25 minutes, most cross the finish line in 30-50 minutes. Everyone who participates is encouraged to walk, roll, push, run or skip at their happy pace!

First, we understand that life happens, and circumstance might make it not possible to attend the 5K celeberation.

We do encourage that all participants attend and complete the 5K, as it is the goal that teams are preparing for all season long. It’s the ultimate opportunity to build confidence through accomplishment. Remember, this is the first 5K event for many – including coaches, participants, friends and family members. We are in it together!

A Running Buddy is an individual designated by the council or by the parent/guardian to complete the 5K alongside a program participant during the 5K event, for the entire duration of the course. Running Buddies must be at least 16 years old and may be a coach, teacher, school administrator, relative or friend of the girl.

Yes, every girl will need a Running Buddy for the 5K. Running Buddies must be 16 or older and may be family members, caregivers, teachers or anyone else who will help ensure the girl’s safety and provide her with support throughout the 5K. Coaches may also be Running Buddies for up to three girls of similar pace. All Running Buddies must register for the event. Families that qualify for reduced lunch receive one discounted or free entry for their Running Buddy.

Yes! This is encouraged! This is a great way to accomplish a goal together.

For safety reasons, every participant must register for the 5K and wear a race bib (provided by the council). Our council ensures every participant has a Running Buddy, and only critical 5K volunteers have access to confidential information.

To ensure every participant crosses the finish line, we have safety monitors and police officers throughout the course. Working with the venue and local police and on-site security, our council has a safety plan, which trains staff and volunteers on how to respond during an emergency or incident.

Yes. All 5K registration forms include liability waivers.

Yes. Girls on the Run 5K events are for everyone! All participants can walk, run, push or roll safely and at their own happy pace. Designated parking spots are available.

Absolutely! Participants who register by TBD date are guranteed a 5K T-shirt, and participants in the Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole programs receive a 5K medal.

We are so grateful to all our local partners who support us through their investment in Girls on the Run. Together we’re creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. If you are interested in becoming a Girls on the Run partner for the 5K or our programs, please contact Yulanda McCowin at yulanda.mccowin@girlsontherun.org.
